This Manuel Contreras C1 Spruce is beautiful from beginning to end. We keep bringing it to the store because Contreras is constantly making this nice instrument even better and better. It feels welcoming and inviting. Music is inside it! The rosette is like a royal garden, full of color and textures. Its sound is pure finesse and sophistication. So many qualities to this instrument that it feels like a privilege to play it every time.
The tone is a blend of the traditional and the modern classical guitar. Amazing intonation, amazing articulation and long harmonics. It has a good sustain and a very good response.
When we received the first Contreras C1 Spruce several years ago, we played uptempo music. It just felt like it. We were impressed at how accurate the guitar was. Then we went into more mellow tunes and the contrast was quite enjoyable. This instrument can impress you at first and in time! The top will open and grow as it is played. Gorgeous instrument.
We recommend the Contreras C1 to any professional guitarist, conservatory musician, or aficionado.
CONTRERAS GUITARS AT SAVINO MUSIC
The Contreras name is a brand of familial heritage, but with an eye set on the needs of players and innovation. Every guitar made by Contreras and his luthiers — including his son, the Junior Contreras, who worked alongside Contreras Sr. during his life — paid tribute to the musicians who would play them, consolidating creative pursuit and traditional woodwork into some of the world's best instruments. Who better to build a work of care, precision and love than a father and his son?
Since the inception of the revolutionary sounding back support, Contreras guitars have been sought after by the world's leading musicians. The achievements of the Contreras guitars are universal in their effects, reimagining the way luthiers make guitars and the role of the instrument within bands and orchestras everywhere. This culminated in the 2000 Joaquín Rodrigo Award for the 10th Anniversary model, arguably the frontrunner of the Contreras line and a staple of any classical guitar collection.
